New Projects

Now that the Christmas season is winding down, I am turning my focus to new projects.

My latest project is due to be published in March of 2009, The book will be titled "Professor Tuesday's Awesome Adventures in History" and will feature a story about Chief Pontiac and his uprising of 1763. The book is about an eccentric history professor and a classroom of children who go back in time to learn about the Native American peoples of the woodland tribes. Through a series of mishaps, one student and the professor become trapped in history. That leaves Miss Pepper's class with the challenge of rescuing them. The trick is that Professor Tuesday's teleporter only works on Tuesdays of the week and only goes back to Tuesday's in history.

In addition to the Tuesday book, the publisher has expressed interest in another book in the Tuesday series. I'm thinking it will be about either the immigrant populations of Michigan or the great inventors of Michigan. Regardless, it's great fun to reseach and write these works. They are about 20,000 words in length. In general they take a couple of months to write once the research is done.

I am also working on the next adventure in the CCC. This time the hero of the story, Jarek Sokolowski, will be relocated to Alba, Michigan. In each of these books there will be an antagonist who will stir up difficulty and create conflict. In the second book Giants in the Wilderness, the antagonist will be the people of the nearby community who don't like the CCC boys. Like the first book in the series, it will be based on an actual occurance from the depression era.

The Season of Fun

As many of my readers may know, Christmas is my time of year. Waking this morning to about a half a foot of snow really got me to thinking and looking ahead to the season.

Many people today decry the idea that we have become too commercial in our celebration of Christmas. While this may be true, it is certainly nothing new. History shows that overdoing it goes back to the first years of Christmas celebration in the U.S. Diaries from people living in the early 1700s grouse about the same issues we hear year in and year out.

Anyway, though the world economy is in an ugly state, I want to wish you a very merry and simple Christmas for 2009.

If you have any comments on my books or if you want to ask me any questions at all, just let me know. You can certainly leave a message on this blog or e-mail me at sc@bigbellybooks.com

Kind regards,
